Position Description

Seattle University School of Law seeks applications for a Tenure Track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Law or a Term Faculty Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Lawyering Skills, with expertise in and commitment to teaching legal writing. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Law position will be responsible for teaching, maintaining an active program of scholarship, and performing university and school service. The successful candidate for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Lawyering Skills position will be responsible for teaching, maintaining an active program of professional growth (including participation in program-related regional, national, or international organizations or centers), and performing university and school service.

Candidates should anticipate an active role in Seattle University's nationally ranked and coordinated Legal Writing program, which provides students with three required semesters of legal writing courses over two years. The first-year course, Legal Writing, Skills, and Values, focuses on the traditional skills of legal research, predictive legal analysis, and legal writing, and it also introduces the lawyering skills of client interviewing and counseling, fact development, and negotiation. In addition, it explores the values of reflection as both a lawyering and academic skill, cultural competence, and development of professional identity. In the second-year course, students learn persuasive writing and oral advocacy at both the trial and appellate levels. Faculty teaching in the program rotate between the two courses.

Qualifications

Juris Doctorate from an accredited ABA Institution. Preferred: at least five years' experience in legal practice.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $80,000 - $190,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.
