The Senior Assistant Dean will:
(1) Develop and implement a long-term enrollment management strategic plan for the School of Law, which includes a corresponding financial aid and scholarship support strategy.

(2) Oversee and implement all aspects of the School of Law's operations, including its finances and facilities.

This position directs the strategic, visionary, and operational leadership related to enrollment, financial aid, and marketing within the School of Law. This position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Law and is the top Enrollment position for the School of Law.

The Senior Assistant Dean will lead and manage the Office of Enrollment Management, which encompasses Law Admissions and Law Financial Aid, with the objective of annually enrolling a broadly diverse and highly talented JD cohort of full and part-time students. In carrying out these responsibilities, the Senior Assistant Dean provides leadership to the full array of law school efforts to achieve enrollment, finance, and facilities goals, including the design and development of strategic initiatives in response to national trends in law school application and enrollment.

The Senior Assistant Dean will provide dynamic leadership in the implementation and administration of the long-term strategic enrollment initiatives and financial strategies for the law school.

The Senior Assistant Dean is also an essential member of the law school in supporting the work of the Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Dean's senior leadership team. This position holds primary responsibility for the effective administrative functioning of the school in the areas of finance, human resources, and facilities. The Senior Assistant Dean for Strategic Enrollment and Operations reports to the Dean of the law school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

I. Enrollment and Admissions


A. Develop, communicate, and implement strategic vision to achieve enrollment objectives.

B. Oversee Law Admissions and Law Financial Aid.

C. Administration of the Office of Enrollment Management.

D. Working within parameters set by the Law School's strategic plan and the Dean, develop and communicate a vision and strategic plan to achieve the Law School's enrollment objectives.

E. Implement the strategic enrollment management plan, working closely with Law School faculty, staff, and administration to achieve enrollment objectives.

2. Manage and provide leadership to Office of Enrollment Management, including engagement in strategic and long range planning.

3. Provide leadership to law school efforts to enroll a highly qualified and diverse student body; serve on law school leadership team and provide guidance and expertise on enrollment services.

4. Develop and maintain relationships with similarly situated enrollment management professionals at other law schools and/or with national organizations (such as LSAC) that collect information on national and regional trends on applications to law schools, financial aid policies, and overall law school enrollment.

5. Oversee Law Admissions and the development of admissions processes and ensure that processes are aligned with strategic goals for recruiting first-year and transfer applicants.
  • Oversee Law Financial Aid and ensure that processes and awards are aligned with strategic goals.
  • Design and implement financial aid policies to support the enrollment of a highly qualified and highly diverse student body.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of effective financial aid awarding processes for new and continuing students, working in collaboration with the Director Financial Aid.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for External Relations on the design and implementation of new student recruitment initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director for Inclusive Excellence on initiatives to attract minority law students.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Global Engagement, s to recruit and retain an international cohort of LL.M. students
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Advancement to ensure effective stewardship of donated scholarship funds.

II. Administration of the Office of Enrollment Management.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff, including the Director of Admissions and the Director of Financial Aid, and provide leadership in the administration of the Office.
  • Ensure that the staff meets established performance metrics.
  • Plan and manage the Enrollment Management budget, and direct the overall operations of the Office.
  • Collaborate with peers, subordinates, supervisors, and internal and external constituencies


III. Finance
  • Serve as chief financial officer for the school.
  • Responsible for annual and long-term financial planning and analysis; oversee development of annual and long-range financial forecasts.
  • Manage annual budgeting process, including interface with Law School departments and with University Budget Office, Provost's Office, and Finance Office.
  • Advise department heads and faculty on the management of restricted funds, including gifts, grants, and contracts.
  • Assist the Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and the Dean in faculty and staff salary planning, annual budget planning, and law school fiscal and financial processes.
  • Manage and provide leadership to the Law Finance Office.


IV. Human Resources
  • Serve as chief liaison with University Human Resources and be responsible for implementation of university and law school personnel policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate staff hiring, performance planning, and termination processes.
  • Oversee preparation of faculty employment contracts, including annual and supplemental contracts.


V. Reporting
  • Work with the Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs to ensure that the Law School continues to meet relevant accrediting standards, including periodic review of Law School policies and procedures so as to comply with ABA and AALS rules and standards, and overall coordination of the preparation of annual reports to accrediting agencies.
  • Ensure that the Law School fulfills other institutional reporting obligations, such as those requested by U.S. News.
  • Supply all reporting requests from the University's Provost Office and Finance Office and Budget Office, as well as any other University reporting requests.


VI. Technology and Facilities

  • Manage and provide leadership to the Law Technology Office.
  • Oversee daily law school building management.
  • Assign space as needed.


PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION
This position supervises the staff of the Law Finance Office. This staff presently includes the Director, the Assistant Manager, and three (3) student workers of the Law Finance Office. This position supervises the Office of Admission and Financial Aid, which includes the positions of Director of Admissions, Financial Aid Advisor, Admissions Counselors, and Data Processor,
This position supervises the staff of the Law Technology Office. This staff presently includes the Field Support Manager, the Audio/Video Support Manager, the Senior Computer Support Specialist, and eight (8) student workers of the Law Technology Office.


GENERAL GUIDELINES
  • Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.
  • Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.
  • Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services.
  • Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives.
  • Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.
  • Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals. Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.
  • Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.
  • Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.


QUALIFICATIONS

I. An advanced degree is required, with a preference for a JD (Juris Doctor) or MBA (Master of Business Administration).
2. Minimum of twelve years of experience in executive administration of complex organizations (such as a law school, university school or college, non-profit entity, or law firm), including experience in admissions, financial analysis and management, human resources, or operations, and management/supervision of staff and departments.
3. Demonstrated skills using financial management and ERP finance systems; Workday experience preferable.
4. Excellent organizational skills.
5. Demonstrated leadership; experience in higher education, including law school administration, preferred.
6. Provides active and informed participation in the School of Law's planning for information technology.
7. Ability to conceive and articulate a vision for the future of technology resources and services.
8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
9. Ability to work effectively, responsively, and collaboratively with a wide range of constituencies, including law school and university administrators, faculty, students, and staff.
